Details:

The main aim of this two-day event is to assist in improving literacy skills for children on the Fleurieu Peninsula by creating a positive environment to allow them to experience the joy of storytelling in its varied forms.
Two sessions for all interested in story writing and illustrations are to be held each evening

Pre-School Author Reading And Activity
Author Kristin Martin will read her picture books Banjo Frog’s Concert Spectacular, which is set on the Fleurieu Peninsula with local animal characters, and Where Shall We Travel Today? She will invite children to act out the stories with puppets and toy animals. This will be followed by a craft activity making finger puppets of the characters. Kristin Martin is a poet, picture book author and primary school teacher. She lives near the beach in Adelaide with her family, turtles, green tree frogs and a bearded dragon named Ash.

Writing Workshop

Do you like using your imagination to create stories? If so, join Mike Lucas and learn how to tell tales that people want to read. Where do you start? What are the things you need? And how do you make your story interesting and bring
your characters and settings to life? Mike will talk about all these things and give you the chance to begin your own story, ready to take away and finish in your own time.

Pre-School Author Reading and Activity
Who doesn’t love listening to stories? Join bestselling, internationally published and award winning children’s author and poet Janeen Brian to hear her latest picture book story, called Are you the Easter Bunny? and we’ll find out what the real creature is! There are also stories about chickens and a dinosaur, songs and rhymes as well as some craft activities. Stories are important! Come along and join in the fun!

Mike will take you through the process, from coming up with an idea, through the first draft, creating your characters, developing your plot, the importance of conflict and the resolution to the story. And, just when you think you’ve finished, there’s the editing process. A beginning to end workshop that will give you an insight into what you need
to become an author.

The Art Of Children’s Book Illustration
Ages 16yrs +
Since being handed a tin of chalk to draw on her grandparent’s concrete paths at 2 years of age, Mandy has never stopped drawing. This includes illustrating for the Adelaide Zoo Education Service for 12 years (drawing enough animals to fill an encyclopedia) and the iconic, Haigh’s Chocolates. Join Mandy and follow the illustration process from the first scribble of an idea to the final brushstroke of an award-winning book. Mandy will delve into the world of illustrating for children, sharing her sketchbooks where much loved stories came to life. Includes a drawing demonstration, exploring Mandy’s thought process for creating characters with expression and an abundance of personality.
